Electronic Labor Contract (e-LC) in Vietnam
Labor contract means an agreement between an employee and an employer on paid work, on wages [salary, remuneration], on working conditions, and on the rights and obligations of each party to the labor relationship.
A legal labour contract generally includes four primary components:
- Employment
- Salary, wage, or remuneration
- Management and supervision
- Employment cost
Promulgated in Decree 337/2025 and detailed clarified by Circular 08/2026/T-BNV, the concept of “electronic labor contract” [a.k.a e-LC, e-contract] and National Electronic Labor Contract Platform (NELC Platform) are introduced, set a major milestone in Vietnam’s digital transformation.
Key highlights from the issuance:
-
Equal Legal Validity: An e-LC holds the exact same legal validity as a traditional paper contract.
-
Centralized Platform (NELC Platform): This is Vietnam’s centralized, state-managed digital gateway for all electronic labor contracts. All e-LC data is centrally managed and synchronized through the NELC Platform.
-
Unique e-LC ID: 13-character ID is generated automatically by NELC Platform. The 13-character ID consists of a tracking letter (showing contract origin) followed by a 12-digit sequence. The contract ID acts as a permanent tracking code for the entire lifecycle of the employment relationship
-
ID-driven Engagement: Granting contract ID, e-LC executed by Corporation ID (Employers) and Personal VNeID (Employees) to ensure legal accountability.
Workflow of e-LC engagement is illustrated in our issuance for ease of reference.
Adopting e-LCs and using the NELC platform is completely optional. The Vietnamese government actively encourages the shift to digital, but companies retain full freedom of choice when the system goes live in July 2026.
Moving ahead, the NELC platform will become Vietnam’s largest workforce database, automating employment compliance and eliminating manual, periodic labor usage reports.
